TV | The Walking Dead Season 5, Review

So last week the last episode of season 5 was a fact ! Time to take a view upon the season, how it went down / what was remarkable, etc. I won't go in to too much detail. Only if it's necessary. Oh... SPOILER WARNING for everyone that isn't up to date with the series. You better not read this article or any other reviews I had about the episodes (as far as it may concern you)...

So we ended season 4 with the group getting in-prisoned by the Terminus people. But we also knew that Beth was somewhere else. And that Tyreese, Carol and Judith were still on there way to Terminus. The season starts with the group being taken outside, and in to the butcher-area of Terminus. At witch point we see Carol, Tyreese and Judith come near Terminus and hearing the gun fire we heared in the last episode of season 4. They grab Martin (a fellow Termite). And Carol goes in with guns / firework to set the group loose once more. She does so with succes. And in time so that Glenn, Daryl, Rick and Bob don't get there heads chopped-off. The group goes out of Terminus and then meet up with Carol, Tyreese and Judith. They are then on the move, far away from Terminus. In the end credits we see Morgan, he is catching up to the group. They meet up with Father Gabriel. A Father who sits on a rock in the woods. Who was trying to get some know-how of the area around his church. The group goes with him. Gabriel however is not familiar with the world outside of his church. And let people die outside of it, for his save-keeping. The group realises that quite soon. Bob goes out when the group is celebrating. And he is taken hostage by the Termites who are now evolved into Hunters. But what they don't know is that he has been bitten, so they are eating 'tainted meat'. Daryl and Carol meanwhile go after a similair car that took Beth. When some of the group members go after the Termites at a school, the Termites found a way to come towards the church. But when they are almost at the point of taking Gabriel and the others Rick's party comes back and kill them (the Termites) ! Abraham, Rosita, Eugene, Tara, Maggie and Glenn then go seperate path. Heading for DC because Eugene seems to have a cure for this whole desease/plague... But they get stuck (walkers are crawling around a farming plant), Eugene then says that he lied the whole bit. He doesn't know a cure. Abraham almost knocks him out. After that they head back for the church. Meanwhile Daryl comes back with a new member: Noah. Who he met in Atlanta. Carol and Beth are there in a hospital who has strange rules. Rick, Daryl, Noah, Tyreese and Sascha go out to get them back. When Abraham and the others return to the church they here about Beth. And go after them. In Atlanta we see the part of the group getting a plan together for invading the hospital. Were Beth meanwhile is getting on the good side from some of the hospital persons. They set up a trade. Beth and Carol for some cops the group has held hostage when entering Atlanta. The deal 'goes south' tough. And Beth is shot in the head. Maggie, Glenn and the rest are coming to the hospital when Daryl carries Beth outside. From there on they go on the road again... It's the mid-season finale, and in the end we see Morgan catching up to the church and school. He then finds the map Abraham had left for Rick, to find them in DC. With the text: Sorry I was an A**hole the new world needs Rick Grimes.

The returning episode after the break shows us the group heading for Shirewilt. A different version of Wiltshire from the comics during the beginning of the comic series. Noah lived there, and Beth would have go there with him. The town is overrun tough. Noah finds his family dead / turned into walkers. Tyreese is suprised by one of Noah's (now walker) brothers and doesn't survive the bit. While Tyreese is slipping away he sees Mika, Lizzie, Beth and the rest of they key figures. Even Martin from the Termites/Hunters. The rest of the group sees references to Wolves. But don't know what to make of it. When they escape with the body of Tyreese they even get overwelmed by chopped people/walkers. Tyreese is burried along the way to DC, the next stop for the group. Eugene lied about the cure but none the less they want to go there. On the road there there cars stop one for one. They go on foot. Come across dogs that don't look to friendly. Sascha kills them but before that she lost it with luring walkers into a trap. Meanwhile Daryl can't overcome the empty space that Beth leaves behind. He goes of the current path from time to time when he comes back the group has retrieved a fair amount of water from a stranger. But they don't accept it. But then it suddenly rains after a huge amount of dry days. It rains to hard tough and they find shelter in a barn. During the night it's Rick that says his father had a great story once. It concludes that they are THE WALKING DEAD ! The strom hits the barn. Walkers coming for the barn. When it almost looks like the barn will collapse the storm is over and so is the threat. Once out the walkers are dead, trees are knocked down. Sascha and Maggie go out and get suprised by Aaron. He has good news and leads the group to a shed not far. There we meet his boyfriend Eric. From there they go to the Alexandria Safe Zone, the place were Aaron and Eric come from. It seems legit and safe. Once there the group finds themself in an odd setting. These people think nothing can harm them. They haven't been on the outside much. Every member of Rick's group is being interviewed. We only see a view of them: Rick, Carl/Judith, Carol, Michone and Daryl. Everyone get there work layed out for them. Carol is holding back on the people of Alexandria tough, as she is not sure what to expect. Tara, Glenn, Eugene and Noah are the new sweepers together with Nicholas and Aiden on one of the runs it 'goes south' Aiden is overrun by walkers and Noah is killed by an inpatient Nicholas. Tara is badly hurt. Nicholas and Aiden then reveal by accident that is was them who left there first search party and not the other way around. (As they say at first). Rick and Jesse have quite some feelings to each other. Jesse's husband Pete can't cope with that/besides he hits Jesse and one of his sons multiple times (in secret). Rick's group (the walking dead) see them self as outsiders inside Alexandria. Daryl the most, he gets the recruiter job together with Aaron. The issue with Pete leads Rick to burst out in anger. Alexandria is terrified by it... Meanwhile Abraham has taken over the constructors side of things. As he finds out that Tobin leaves men/women behind who are attacked. Glenn tells Nicholas that if he endangers people once more that he should stay IN instead of OUTSIDE. But then Nicholas leads Glenn into a trap and have a battle going on between them. And they finally come to an agreement. Carl and Enid are also finding each other later, because in the beginning they don't want to be close to each other. Daryl and Aaron meanwhile find the place of the Wolves by accident. But don't really know it. Only seeing the marks they have seen before (W's on the head of people/walkers). They come across Morgan (who finally catched up) and he has seen the Wolves in action at the start of the final episode... When Rick bursts out he gets seperated from the rest. When the meeting from Dianne and the rest is almost over Rick bumbs in and shows a walker who got inside the safe zone. Pete then almost want to kill Rick but kills Reg in the proces. Dianne then orders Rick to shoot Pete. And that point there is a turning point. Rick wants to let the people show how to change in order for them to live (in- and outside the zone). When they are almost done Morgan shows up with Daryl and Aaron. At the end we see the Wolves back in action...

So not a terrible strong cliff hanger. But a solid one. What did we miss ? Well they could have given us a bit more background on Rosita and Eugene, they gave us one about Abraham (and him meeting Eugene). The man Rick, Glenn, Bob and Daryl safe in the first episode of this season from Terminus is not really focused on. Not even a clue about what he was. Was he one of the Wolves ? Really seems that way to me. What was the group that caputered Terminus before Rick and the rest came there ? Also the Wolves ? It seems like they tortured them more then killed them (what the Wolves do during the season). And they could have done more with the hospital in my oppinion. Then what to expect from here on forwards with the series. Well Alexandria will change, as Rick says during the meet. Rick will come near Jesse (duh!). What will happen with Morgan. Will we see his side of the story, and how much of it will we see. And will he leave Alexandria afterwards or will Rick not let him. Tara has awoken in the last episode will she be fit again ? Dianne and Maggie should build up a thrust-relationship with each other again after the last couple of episodes. But will it happen ? Aaron and Daryl will go on the road again ? Will they see the Wolves as well ? Will they be accompanied by Morgan ? Glenn and Nicholas, what will happen with them. There story is still to be unfold. Will Nicholas come clean in front of Dianne. What is Gabriel's plan in all of Alexandria ? He ratted out the group (more or less). Maggies keeps an eye on him for sure. Sascha is also not happy anymore with him. So what will happen from hear on ? And then o'course; Will the Wolves come for Alexandria ? They have seen the pictures left by Aaron in a hurry. Rick and Carl are on these pictures. And so is the rest of Alexandria. We will have to wait +/- 6 months now. Altough the spin-off series will start after the summer: Fear The Walking Dead. It will contain 6 episodes and the first is bound to set in L.A. One major difference between this and the original ? No comic book counter-part. The original series will start again somewhere in October this year... One more thing: Something they should change and hopefully the spin-off doesn't have is the huge amount of swapping between people. In the last view episodes you were continiously swopped between 2 or 3 sets of people. Even when they were in Alexandria. Swopping is not bad. But keep us focused on them for like 15 minutes. And swap back after that...
