Review | H.A.W.X.
One week later, but one game richer... It's time for the review of the new franchise from the hand of Tom Clancy ! And with that said it's time for the biggest disappointment: it's not that good as I thought it would be. I played the demo quite often and was really impressed by the action it was giving me. But now that I play the full game, it is all a bit easy and not as good as a normal Tom Clancy game would be... Don't understand me wrong, it isn't a bad game but it doesn't have the class of a Tom Clancy game that you would expect it to have.
You begin the game under command of the US goverment. With a quite straight on mission to asssist the GR (Ghost Recon) on the ground. The game has a view cross overs with GRAW(2). It is quite a nice welcome commity if you didn't play the demo... Unfortantly I did play the demo and so it was a bit of... how do I say it: boring ! The second mission is already a bit better and the 3rd even more. From there on the action really kicks in... For the rest I won't tell you much about the game, I am to afraid it will be even more boring if I do so. So on to the Interface and all !
The planes are really detailed. The ground map as well. And the explosions are from a mid-range to high-range quallity. Never the less the game is not that nice and living. And maybe that is one of the points why it isn't a game for a compleet day of gaming. I rather play a day long Splinter Cell or another stealth game (it doesn't have to be Tom Clancy all the way). Then I would rather play with HAWX ! It is a bit akward that you don't get to choose freely between the missions, which plane you want to fly. You only get 2 till 4 planes each mission. Sometimes with a good argument (not every plane can carry bombs). Other times it will give you some stupid argument about that it isn't suited for the mission at all... HELLO ! I want to decide that on my own. Never the less these 2 till 4 planes you are getting are different enough to still make the decission you want. But the game slidely force you into safety, without blushing !
Overall the game is good, it looks good (not perfect) it runs well on the PC even if you don't have such a high end PC which you will need for Crysis or so. And you will play it most of the time because it's fun and entertaining. But that is just what it shouldn't be ! You would like to play it because of the action. Because of the hard AI it gives you. And on easy mode it is just some times to easy ! Besides that you have the ERS. It should bring you some kind of action, but what it actually does is that it helps you cheat. A thing that is good about the game is the cinematic Assistant Off mode. It is at some point also a cheat because you can have the enemy in range longer then in 'On' mode but it is nice to see everything getting blown up in cinematic view.
BUT BEFORE YOU MISS UNDERSTAND ME, I LIKE THE GAME. FACT IS THAT IT ISN'T THE GAME FROM TOM CLANCY YOU WOULD EXPECT IT TO BE. AND THAT MAKES IT HARD (FOR ME IT DOES) TO KEEP FOCUSED ON THE GAME. AND MAY EVEN NOT PLAY IT ALL THE WAY TO THE END ! NEVER THE LESS IT'S A GREAT FLIGHT GAME WITH 50/50 OFF IT WITH FULL TIME ACTION AND BREATH TAKING ACROBATICS (IF YOU CAN MANAGE THEM). BUT I AM UNDERSTANDING NOW WHAT A GAME WILL GIVE ME IF IGN SAYS TO THE CROWD, THAT THIS GAME IS WORHT A 6.7: "PASSIBLE" !
